Who are McWolf & how did it all come about?
McWolf’s recordings are just me (Wellington Netto); however I did recently gather some members for a live band but we’re still in practice stages. I created McWolf so I could release my own songs without looking like a ‘solo artist’ by releasing them under my name.
We have been wondering if the name McWolf was a combination of McFly from Back To The Future & Teen Wolf, both staring the great Michael J Fox? Are we reading too much into this, how did the name come about?
That’s a pretty good guess, I am a big fan of Michael J. Fox! It’s actually a play on the name ‘Dick Wolf’, the creator of the Law & Order Series as well as Homicide: Life on the Street. I played around with names based on ‘Dick Wolf’ and McWolf stuck.
You’re also involved in two other great bands ABADABAD and Rodeo Church. You must be busy, how is life with them? Is this just more of a side project at the moment?
It’s wildly busy between all the projects I’m involved in, there’s a lot going down with Abadabad right now and we’ll be playing a lot of shows in the coming months. McWolf is just the exclusive outlet of my writing for now.
How would you describe your sound in an adjective filled sentence?
It’s a hectic, occasionally soothing blend of bouncy new-wave with fizzy stuff; it’s not what you think it is, and it’s not that either.
“Sex,drugs, and Rock n Roll” has long been a cliche within music, what three words would you use to describe your music career so far?
bros, casios, coca-cola
Are there any new bands that are inspiring you at the moment,or any that have been the soundtrack to your days as a growing musician?
I’m not very hip to anything too recent; Steely Dan and Devo inspire me on the daily.
We first discovered your music with an excellent self titled EP,have you got anything else up your sleeve music wise? Any musical New Years resolutions?
A second EP is coming but not immediately, I write slowly. Other than getting that out I just want to take some more care to keep myself sane!
We heard you just did your first live McWolf show too,how did that go down? Any more lined up for 2012?
Yeah the show went very well, the ‘solo’ aspect of it was a little difficult as I hadn’t done it in a rather long time. The turnout was awesome though and was great motivation. It remains to be seen with any future gigs, they’ll be advertised when they happen though.
Finally, if you could create anything, for personal or worldwide benefit, what would it be and why?
I’d want to design my own signature sneakers; so everyone could look so fresh.
