  • ANIMA

    Directed By Wilding/Augusto

“This short film seemed to will itself into being – it started as a small project that was plagued at every turn by disaster – but, miraculously, it grew and morphed at each hurdle it faced and became more and more meaningful and personal as a result. It is, broadly speaking, a story of a man letting go and finding himself, much as this video found its own way almost despite our involvement.

This video is without dialogue and external action. It’s also incredibly personal. It was very important and cathartic for us to make. But we made it earnestly, as a gift for whomever sees it. We hope it strikes a chord and continues to live without us – Wilding/Augusto”

  • RICKY

This film meets Ricky Powell, a native New Yorker whose photographs of iconic people such as the Beastie Boys, Keith Haring and Cindy Crawford made him a pivotal figure in the downtown party scene during the ’80s and ’90s.

Now 50, Ricky?s lust for photography and music is still strong. Through his eccentricities such as his love for a transistor radio and feeding squirrels in the park, we gain an insight into his everyday life. Retrospective of New York City and how it has changed over his lifetime, he shows us around the city and contemplates what the future holds.

    Directed by Will Robson-Scott

  • THE SMOKEHOUSE

“Smith joined forces with Victorian grower, gatherer, hunter and cook Rohan Anderson to build a pioneer-style cold smokehouse on his property just outside Ballarat. This short film by Melbourne-based production studio Commoner captures the vision of the smokehouse build and the story of Anderson?s motivation. A step-by-step account of the process is featured in Smith Journal volume four, on sale September 10, 2012.”

  • THE BEAUTY OF THE IRRATIONAL

Human beings don?t always make rational decisions. But making irrational decisions is precisely what makes us human. These decisions, based on an impulse or a feeling, often lead us to those perfect moments when it feels great to be alive.

“The Beauty of the Irrational” follows Ryan Sandes, a South African Ultra-Runner, as he returns to the Fish River Canyon to run the 5 day, 84km, Fish River Canyon Hiking Trail in the fastest time possible.

He completed the run, self-supported, in amazing time of 6h57min.

  • AMONGST INSPIRATION//PART 4

In this, the fourth in a series of inspiration led mini-films, we spend a few hours in the studio with artist Paul Hughes.

Dublin painter Paul Hughes has been painting for over 20 years and works out of his studio, an old pig barn on Frascati Park in Dublin. Over the years Paul has built up a very loyal following. It is only in the last 5 or 6 years though that he has publicly exhibited his work.

In January 2009 Paul was invited by the DDDA to hold the first showing of his Absorption / Horizon series of work. This exhibition, called “Do You Ever Get There”, was a great success and lead to his first solo show in London in June 2009 at the King’s Road Gallery. This show was called “Between Two Worlds”.

Paul is also proactive with charities such as Frontline Human Rights Defenders, Sea Change Micro Financing, John Hartnett Stroke Fund and Blackrock Hospice.
